Ngāti Pikiao weavers complete whāriki for the Turangawaewae 100 year celebration
Our Ngāti Pikiao weavers have completed the whāriki for Mahinarangi.
The photo below is of our Ngāti Pikiao weavers with their beautiful woven whāriki outside Kahumatamomoe wharenui at Waiatuhi marae.
The photo was inspired by a photograph taken of our Te Arawa weavers standing in front a whare that is now in a museum in Hamburg, showcasing finely woven whāriki, which were woven for Rauru.
Our weavers will be travelling to Turangawaewae on Saturday 7 August 2021 where they will part ways with the whāriki that they have worked on for the past 12 months.
These whāriki will be gifted on behalf of Ngāti Pikiao as part of the Turangawaewae 100 year celebrations.
